Volunteer Opportunity with Native Plant Salvage
Volunteer with Native Plant Salvage on Sunday March 14th
Mar 14 2010 - 9:30am-- 3:30pm
Come join WSU Thurston County Extension Native Plant Salvage Project on Sunday, March 14th to salvage native plants from a second growth forest that is being transformed into a South Sound prairie ecosystem.
We will meet at the site at 9:30 a.m. and salvage plants till 12:00. Then we will eat lunch and pack up tools. Then we will carpool over to our holding beds to pot them up. We aim to be at the beds at 12:30. We need extra help in the afternoon to pot up a bunch of bare-root plants as well, so if you can only come for part of the day, make it the afternoon.
The salvage site is located off exit 99 about 10 miles south of Olympia. For privacy of the landowner, we won't publicly release the location, but if you want to attend please send us an email or call and we'll get you all the details. Please dress in layers for all potential weather;
Lunch: We provide a hot vegetarian soup, bread, fruit, and other light snacks for lunch, as well as hot water for making tea, hot cocoa, and hot cider. If you need additional food/drinks, or don’t like our offerings, please bring your own.
Tools: We will provide all shovels and other tools necessary, but again, feel free to bring your own if you have one; please mark your shovel so that we don’t get them mixed up.
Trucks: As always, we need help hauling the plants back to the holding beds. If you can loan use of your truck for this, we will be very grateful! Let us know if you can bring a truck beforehand.
